The Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria were agreed by the Partnership for Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria (GSTC Alliance, for its acronym in English) is a coalition of 32 organizations working together to promote better understanding of the practices sustainable tourism and adoption of universal principles. This was initiated by Rainforest Alliance, the United Nations Programme for Environment (UNEP), United Nations Foundation and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

Criteria were presented at the World Conservation Congress in October 2008 and constitute the minimum standards at any tourism business should aspire to protect and conserve natural and cultural resources of the world while ensuring that tourism meets its potential as a tool to alleviate poverty.
